Paediatric and Adult Asthma Diploma
Face to Face courses are available in your own locality when they have been commissioned by your employer/ICB. Your training hub will be able to advise you whether these are currently available in your area.
The Respiratory Matters Asthma Diploma course is suitable for health care professionals who are caring for adults and children with asthma. The course has been designed to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to be able to provide evidence-based, gold standard care from the point of an accurate diagnosis ensuring that effective management strategies are implemented throughout.
The diploma is undertaken via eLearning where you will find the PowerPoint presentations with audio, interactive quizzes, videos, and resources. There are no set enrolment dates so the course can be started at anytime throughout the year. The duration of the course is 6 months.With each module it is recommended to complete the ‘tasks’ to support your studies and you will then be able to use these as reference when you complete the MCQ exams. These exams are timed but do not have to be completed on set dates, to allow flexibility.
You will have the opportunity (not mandatory) for 1-2-1 tutorials, via ZOOM on request.
The courses measurable learning outcomes have been benchmarked at level 5, using Ofqual’s regulated qualifications framework (RCF) level descriptors to allow participants to consider the depth of study, difficulty, and level of achievement involved.
The Asthma Diploma has been accredited by the CPD certification service. CPD training means the learning activity has reached the required Continuing Professional Development standards and benchmarks. The learning value has been scrutinised to ensure integrity and quality. The CPD Certification Service provides recognised independent CPD accreditation compatible with global CPD requirements.

Recognise the signs and symptoms of asthma.
Be able to use appropriate tests to assist in confirming diagnosis as per BTS/SIGN guidelines (NICE is also discussed)
Understand the use of appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of an person with asthma as per BTS/SIGN, discussion around GINA and as per BNF and BNF-C.
Understand emergency pathways in primary care, to ensure that patient need is met safely and competently
Be able to empower people with asthma to take control of their condition.
Be able to utilise the knowledge learned throughout the course to deliver safe, evidence-based practice.
