This course is suitable for Health Care assistants who are supporting registered health care professionals in caring for people with asthma or COPD.
The course has been designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to be able to provide a supportive role in providing gold standard care to your patients.
The certificate can be completed by via eLearning through our virtual learning environment (VLE). Here you will have access to PowerPoint presentations with audio, interactive quizzes, and resources. You will also have access to email, telephone support or 1-2-1 ZOOM tutorials if required. You will be able to access the course for 3 months from enrolment, however one extension can be given at no additional cost, and additional extensions for a small administration fee. There are no set start dates to for the eLearning route allow for flexibility.

Learning Outcomes
Understand the role of a Health Care Assistant as an important supportive role for registered health care professionals.
Have an understanding on the signs and symptoms of asthma and COPD.
Be able to perform appropriate tests delegated to them to assist the registered health care professional in confirming a diagnosis.
Basic understanding of pharmacology
Understand the different techniques required when using an inhaler and being able to teach patients to improve their technique.
Be able to empower people with asthma or COPD to take control of their condition through gold standard asthma reviews with a clear understanding of personal and professional competencies and boundaries.
Recognise when escalation should occur.
